Three Suns Heading for Peace

Three Suns Heading for Peace

The propitious term “San Yang Kai Tai (Three Suns Heading for Peace)”, also “San Yang Jiao Tai”, is from Chow Yi (the Book of Changes), which means that the winter is withdrawing and the spring is coming back. As one of the imperial collections kept in the Palace Museum, the scroll painting San Yang Kai Tai was to hang in the imperial palace at the end of each year to embrace the arrival of the New Year and to suggest happiness and auspice. The goats in the painting compared to the suns, while the sun compared to the peace.
